Live session clock
Standard FX session hours in UTC (Sydney 21–06, Tokyo 00–09, London 07–16, New York 12–21). During daylight-saving changes sessions shift by an hour relative to UTC — the overlaps (London–NY especially) are where volume and range concentrate. Red line = now.
Typical hourly range — majors
Average high−low per hour (UTC) over the last ~30 days of hourly candles. Darker = wider typical range.

How to use it
Match your strategy to the hours it actually needs. Breakout and momentum approaches want the wide cells — the London open and the London–New York overlap. Mean-reversion approaches often prefer the quieter Tokyo afternoon. The habit worth building: before an entry, check where you are in the session cycle — a stop placed in a quiet hour is a stop that meets the news hour.
Questions traders actually ask
- When is the best time to trade forex? — for liquidity and tight spreads, the London–New York overlap (12:00–16:00 UTC). “Best” still depends on the strategy's own hours.
- Why did my spread widen at 23:00 UTC? — the daily rollover between sessions; liquidity thins and spreads stretch. The heatmap's quiet hours show exactly this.
- Does the clock handle daylight saving? — the hours shown are standard UTC session times. During DST changeovers, sessions shift ~1 hour against UTC for a few weeks.
